Animatic
An animatic is similar to a moving storyboard. This is where animators plan out and perfect the overall timing of each action/movement. Drawings and animation are later perfected and optimized. An animatic often includes:
- Line drawings (without fills)
- Different line colors for each character
- Letters or numbers to differentiate between characters
- Basic tweens to get a general sense of movement
- Major changes in pose or emotion
- Any camera movements or changes in view
- At least some sense of location - even if it's just a basic grid representing the ground
- Placeholder audio to help with the timing
The animatic is often the stage where major issues in the flow of the story become clear. This allows problems to be corrected before too much time is invested.
